Ireland has been named one of the ten most innovative countries in the world.
The 2015 Global Innovation Index (GII) looks at 'Effective Innovation Policies for Development' and "shows new ways that emerging-economy policymakers can boost innovation and spur growth by building on local strengths and ensuring the development of a sound national innovation environment".
The top ten is dominated by European countries, with the US and Singapore the only non-European countries to occupy top spots. Switzerland remains at number one.
Ireland, meanwhile, has jumped three places from last year, entering the top ten at number eight, and overtaking Luxembourg and Denmark.
The GII is compiled by Cornell University, INSEAD and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and surveys more than 140 different economies.
It looks at areas such as institutions, infrastructure and market sophistication, as well as knowledge, technology and creative outputs.
