We're half way through day 2 of the 2014 Web Summit here at the RDS and now seems like a good time to take stock of what's gone on so far, and what we have yet to encounter.

Thousands of people are currently walking around the various campuses, for varying reasons. On the Pat Kenny Show this morning, Pat spoke with two start-ups about their companies and their expectations from the Web Summit.

Here we have Niamh and Louise of Pucker, an on-demand beauty provider and Shane of Gecko (below), which helps consultants manage their engagements and projects in one central hub.

An interesting point, raised by the start-ups we've encountered so far is that the definition of 'start-up' has changed. It's no longer about the idea which sits pretty on paper and sounds great when you tell friends; it needs to be more than that. Investors are looking for proof that the genius idea can bring in revenue. Many of the people I have spoken to have done extensive market research and know that there is some form of demand for their product or service.

Also this morning, Richard Chambers met with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, who is here as part of the Sports Summit.

One of the big talking points from yesterday was the WiFi crash which occurred early on in the day - unfortunately the issues did continue this morning, but there are more LAN connections available today which is great.

Looking ahead to the rest of the Web Summit, there are some excellent speakers due on the main stages. I'm hoping to jump across to the music summit to hear what the founders of SoundCloud have to say.

We walked through the Food Summit, which is located in Herbert Park, yesterday and grabbed a bite to eat. Hopefully we'll get the change to explore what offerings they have a bit more today.

Make sure to keep an eye on our LiveBlog for the very latest!
