A man in his fifties has been airlifted from Carrauntoohil in County Kerry and taken to Cork University Hospital.

Kerry Mountain Rescue Team and Valentia Coast Guard were involved in the rescue operation after the man fell while descending Ireland's highest mountain.

The mountain rescue volunteer group was notified around 3.15pm that the man had taken a fall near the Heavenly Gates area of Carrauntoohil.
