Instagram has issued an acknowledgement that they were mistaken in disabling the account of a mother in North London, for posting a snap of her young daughter. The picture shows Marlow (18 months) in wellington boots, lifting her dress up to reveal her midriff.

The photo app sent Marlow's mum, Courtney Adamo an email stating the image was inappropriate and it had been deleted. Adamo reposted the photo, only for her account to be subsequently deleted. The social networking site was harshly criticised on Twitter for the decision. A hashtag of #savethebelly came into circulation as a result of Adamo tweeting about the loss of four years of photos, which lead to the account being reactivated.

An Instagram spokesman stated: "We try hard to find a good balance between allowing people to express themselves creatively and having policies in place to protect young children. This is one reason why our guidelines put limitations on nudity, but we recognize that we don’t always get it right. In this case, we made a mistake and have since restored the account."
