The final national anti-water charges demonstration before the election took place in Dublin city centre this afternoon.
Organised by the Right2Change movement, tens of thousands took part in the demonstration against water charges and other austerity measures. Organisers suggest as many as 80,000 participated, with other estimates putting the number at around 20,000 people.
Unite official and Right2Water/Right2Change co-ordinator Brendan Ogle welcomed the turnout, saying it "sends a clear message to the outgoing Government that public anger at water charges remains unabated and will be reflected in the ballot boxes next Friday".
