An improvised explosive device has been discovered in Dublin.

Members of the Army's bomb disposal squad were called to Santry this morning after a suspect device was found.

After arriving at the scene at around 10.10am, army personnel set up a cordon and evacuated nearby buildings.

They identified one improvised explosive device, which was made safe and removed for further examination.

In a statement, the Defence Forces said: "Should members of the public encounter suspicious items, or hazardous substances, they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána."
