The Immigrant Council of Ireland says if the Sex Crimes Bill is passed, Ireland could become the most difficult place in Europe for traffickers to carry out their trade.

On EU Anti-Human Trafficking Day, the Council says Ireland plans to wreck the business model for pimps, traffickers and thugs in the coming weeks.

The ICI's Nusha Yonkova says we should follow Northern Ireland, which started targeting buyers this summer.

She also says the sudden influx of refugees will create more opportunities for the traffickers;

The group believes law makers in Britain, France and at EU level are carefully watching the progress of the new Sex Crimes Bill, which is currently being debated at Leinster House, and could be passed before the year is out.

The bill was published on 23 September 2015 and contains new criminal offences to protect children against grooming; new measures to protect children from online predators; new and strengthened offences to tackle child pornography; and will criminalise the purchase of sexual services.
