Newstalk reporter Shona Murray spoke to Kiearn Cuddihy from Paris about the aftermath of the attacks and the mood in the city.
In the wake of the news that Islamic State have claimed responsibility, Murray said "there's no surprises that the so-called Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, they did it through their media arm about two hours ago. They said this was a miracle that it had happened so successfully".
There is a palpable sense of shock in the city, with Murray stating that many were dumbfounded, but that "it's something that ISIS has been talking about for several months in their rhetoric, attacking Europe, the West and in particular France".
Tighter controls along the border have also been enforced by the French government, and Murray report that there are "army soldiers protecting the airport and the borders have been closed down in certain parts [...] anyone trying to leave the country at all will have their bags searched".
Speaking to people on the streets in Paris, Murray highlighted that "the Islamic community are hoping that there isn’t going to be some sort of backlash that is misguided" in the wake of the attacks. She also spoke to a local cafe owner who described the scenes as events unfolded on Friday night, and the dark mood that has affected the entire city.
