Pat Rabbitte says the company could've given a warning to customers given that the unfortunate situation it is in was "not exactly a surprise".

52 year old David Cooper appeared before Cork District Court on foot of 12 charges relating to his time as an employee at St Mary's Orthopedic Hospital in Cork.

A father of two who tried to sneak a mobile phone into an inmate in Wheatfield prison by hiding it between his buttocks has avoided a jail term.

Anthony Boobey of Dominick Street Lower, Dublin 1 later told gardaí he was trying to get the phone into a relative.

The 32 year pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to attempting to supply a mobile phone to a prisoner on August 5, 2011.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring imposed a two year jail term which she suspended in full on condition that Boobey stay out of trouble for those two years.

Horse meat has been found in a number of beef burgers sold widely in our supermarkets. 

The discovery by the Food Safety Authority relates to products on sale in Tesco, Dunnes, Lidl, Aldi and Iceland. 

While in most cases the amount of horse DNA was at a low level, in one sample from Tesco it accounted for 29% of the meat content.
