A deaf helper dog in the US is taking his job very seriously - learning sign language to help a little girl.

The dog, Walter, is from the Pasadena Humane Society and is helper to Julia, who is also deaf.

The two are the best of friends and share a very special bond due to their lack of hearing.

"I think they were both meant to find each other," says Julia's mother - who has helped her daughter teach Walter sign language.

“These two are my loves,” she says, “and they have taught me that love defines all.”

The Pasadena Humane Society says: “They share an incredible bond. Both were born deaf. Julia and Walter play together. Walter helps Julia with her homework and Julia teaches Walter sign language.”

“Walter is Julia’s best friend.”
