There have been rumours about a possible Blade Runner sequel for years now - but it finally seems that it will enter production next year.

Harrison Ford, who starred as Rick Deckard in the original film, is set to reprise his role. Director Ridley Scott will not be returning - however the film will be based on an idea from Ridley Scott and Hampton Fancher.

Denis Villeneuve - the French-Canadian director of Prisoners and Enemy - is reported to be in talks to direct the upcoming film. It is said to be set several decades after the original film, and will begin shooting in summer 2016.

In a statement, producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said the writers have "crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team".
