A group representing friends and family of Sophie Toscan du Plantier is insisting her family will get justice for her death.

Two members of the Association for the Truth about the Murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier will travel to Ireland this weekend.

As a judge in France continues his inquiries into the case, the group believes a suspect will be tried in France in their absence.

No-one has been convicted in Ireland over the brutal killing of the French filmmaker near her West Cork home in 1996.

Jean Antoine Bloc-Daude, vice-president of the the association, spoke to Newstalk Breakfast.

Last month, police in France sought extra help from gardai over her murder. The then-Justice Minister Alan Shatter said he was taking legal advice on the issue.

Mr. Shatter said he was not sure whether the goveremnt can help the French because of the legal questions over the Ian Bailey tapes.

Lawyers for Mr. Bailey said last month they had received 12 boxes of documents and 130 tapes of recorded conversations revealing an 'extraordinary' level of communication between gardai and the media.

The former journalist is suing the garda authorities for damages over their investigation into the murder.
