A woman has been attacked and stabbed in her own home in San Diego by a person dressed as the Grim Reaper.

The woman was blow-drying her hair in her bathroom on Friday, Halloween night, when the intruder appeared in the bathroom, stabbed her several times before fleeing.

The Huffington Post reported that she was treated for injuries to her neck and back and a scratch to her scalp.

Dogs were used by police to search the area but there were no signs of the attacker.

Speaking from hospital, the woman said she didn't see her attackers face who was in full costume but reported hearing a female voice.
