The mother of Grace Lynch, who died over the weekend after she was hit by a scrambler bike, has vowed to do everything possible to get them banned.

On Monday, an adult teenager was charged in connection to Ms Lynch’s death and appeared before Blanchardstown District Court.

Yesterday evening, hundreds of people turned out in Finglas to honour her memory and show support to her bereaved family.

Addressing the crowd, Siobhán Gifford Lynch said she was experiencing the “worst pain imaginable”.

“I will fight to get these scramblers and scooters and everything off these streets,” she promised.

“And with everyone’s support we’ll get petitions signed, we will get this in the name of Grace.”

On The Hard Shoulder, local Councillor Keith Connolly said scrambler bikes are frequently raised with him by irate constituents.

“There's a great sense of frustration in the area about this,” he said.

“Laws were changed in the last Government; my colleague, Paul McAuliffe, was involved in them, whereby an Gardaí Síochána can now seize them… without a warrant if they believe they've been used in an antisocial behavioural manner.

“And most of the cases, these are being driven recklessly.”

Cllr Connolly added that the death of a young person because of a scrambler bike “cannot happen again”.

“We have the loss of one young girl on the way to meet her boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon,” he said.

“And I think it needs to set an example there now, whereby it's looked at at the highest level as to how this can be stopped.”

A crowdfunder has been set up to help Ms Lynch's family pay for the funeral costs
