The Irish College of General Practitioners is calling on the government to listen to doctors concerns over discretionary medical cards.
The issue is the main item being discussed by GP's at their annual conference in Galway today.
The HSE service plan for Primary Care and government plans to give free GP care to children under six will be discussed by doctors this weekend.
“We are calling on the government and the minster for health to seriously look at the debacle that is the handling of the discretionary medical card issue. It is clear a sign that there is no cohesive plan coming out of the department of health of the HSE and we would urge all those involved to listen to GPs if we are to achieve a meaningful, patient centred reform of our healthcare system,” Darach O'Ciardha, Chair of Communications with the ICGP, said.
