An Irish teenager has died in Germany.

The 16-year-old boy was from Corofin in Co Galway.

He died following a swimming accident in Munch, where he was visiting a relative last week.

Reports say he had been treated in hospital, but passed away on Tuesday.

A post mortem examination is set to take place.

The Department of Foreign Affairs say it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
