Heathrow and Gatwick airports in the UK are investing millions of pounds in anti-drone technology.

It comes in the wake of the major disruption caused at Gatwick before Christmas due to drone sightings.

There was major disruption at the airport between 19th and 21st of December due to the sightings, with hundreds of flights cancelled.

While the British army initially installed specialised anti-drone technology in a bid to combat any drones, it has since been removed.

According to BBC, Gatwick is now investing in dedicated anti-drone defences in a bid to avoid any similar disruption in the future.

A Heathrow spokesperson, meanwhile, said: "The safety of our passengers and colleagues remains our top priority.

"Working closely with relevant authorities including the Met Police, we are constantly looking at the best technologies that help remove the threat of drones."

It's not clear what technology is being brought in, although a number of options exist.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to investigate the "numerous illegal drone sightings" at Gatwick Airport.

They say they have spoken to dozens of 'credible witnesses' in relation to the investigation.
