Gardai believe gangs of shoplifters are targeting Dublin stores to supply a lucrative black market in Eastern Europe.

Officers displayed a large amount of clothing, makeup and jewellery discovered during a raid of a property on the North Circular Road over the weekend.

Tinfoil is not the most expensive of material but it is proving a lucrative tool to gangs of Eastern European shoplifters.

Gardai today revealed how thieves line shopping bags with the metal sheets to bypass store security.

Mobile phones targeted

Today a haul of stolen GAP, Zara and Marks & Spencer goods were displayed. They were found during a raid on a house on the North Circular Road yesterday.

Officers believe Eastern European gangs spend a number of weeks shoplifting by day and stealing mobile phones by night before returning with suitcases full of stolen goods.

Gardi are are urging vigilance and reminding phone users to take note of the unique IMEI number of your handset.

Superintendent John Foudy explains what was uncovered.
