Three people have died following a crash in County Mayo today. 

It happened after 2 pm on the N17 at Castlegar near Claremorris when a car collided with an articulated lorry.

It's understood the victims of the crash are a woman and two children whose bodies are now being moved to Mayo University Hospital for post-mortem exams. 

The road is closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours, with local diversions currently in place.

Gardai are asking any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage to contact them.
