Garda watchdog GSOC is investigating after reports that several off-duty officers were involved in a "public order" incident with revellers in Dublin's Temple Bar at the weekend.

Up to five men were involved in the altercation outside Gallagher’s Boxty House on Fleet Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

GSOC said bottles were thrown and broken during the clash, which happened around 1.30am.

The incident was referred to it under section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005, which provides for independent investigation of "any matter that appears to indicate that the conduct of a member of the Garda Síochána may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person".

GSOC has asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact it on 1890 600 800.
