More than €4 million worth of heroin has been seized in Co. Louth.
Gardaí from the National Drugs Unit, and local detectives, stopped and searched an articulated truck on the M1 near Drogheda yesterday evening. They found 27 kilos of the drug in the lorry.
A man (40) and a woman (43) were arrested at the scene, while another man was arrested during a follow-up search. He is also in his forties.
The seizures and arrests were made as part of an on-going intelligence operation targeting the sale, supply and distribution of controlled substances. Gardaí say high level analysis was employed to dismantle a criminal gang involved in drugs trade.
They are all being held at Coolock and Drogheda garda stations under Drug Trafficking legislation.
The drugs seized will be sent for analysis.
Elsewhere, gardaí discovered another huge haul of drugs at a house in Dublin 4 yesterday.
