Garda presence at Sligo hospital after man stabbed in the town

Gardaí have held a heavy presence at Sligo Regional Hospital overnight after a man was stabbed in the town yesterday.

A brawl broke out on O'Connell Street involving up to five people shortly after 2pm, which resulted in a male teenager having his finger severed and a man (45) being stabbed in the torso.

The teenager was brought to University College Hospital Galway following the incident.

It happened outside the Johnston's Court Arcade in full view of passersby.

Meanwhile the injured man was brought to Sligo Regional Hospital, where gardaí have maintained a presence since.

No arrests have yet been made and none of the injuries are said to be life threatening.
