He was treated at the scene by emergency service personnel and taken by Ambulance to the Mater Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the car was also taken to hospital for medical assessment, however his injures are understood to be minor.

Gardaí said the coroner has been notified and a post mortem will be carried out.

The road was closed to facilitate a forensic investigation and diversions were put in place.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to the crash. They particularly want to speak to motorists with dash cams who may have witnessed the incident on the North Circular Road.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda Station 01-6668600 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
