Three people are still being questioned after a garda and a teenager were shot in North Dublin.

It happened this morning during a planned drugs raid in Ballymun.

Armed gardaí moved in on a house on Barnewall Drive before 7.00am and began ramming down the doors.

Shots were fired at the gardaí and officers returned fire.

A garda was injured in the arm and an 18-year-old man inside the house was then shot.

They are being treated in hospital but their injuries aren’t life threatening.

The officer and the man have been brought to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The shooting has been referred to the garda watchdog, GSOC, for investigation.

The garda technical bureau is on site to examine the scene.

It is the second shooting in the area in a month - while in August a mother-of-six and a 30-year-old man were brutally murdered in nearby Balbutcher Drive.

This man lives close by:

"This is the second incident in the space of less than a month I think," he said."The residents around here are quite shocked."

"This is sad to see - a garda injured and another guy in hospital. It is just unbelievable."

Drug feuding has been going on in Ballymun for some time, Dessie Ellis is a local TD:

"Different areas- there is an awful lot of unreported gun crime where there are shots being fired at windows or things like that, sort of intimidation and unfortunately, it is down to resources," he said.

GRA President Ciaran O’Neill said the shooting highlights how dangerous a garda’s job can be.

"It is typical of some of the work that we would be doing," he said. "We put our lives on the line every day."

In a statement, Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan said: "I learned with concern this morning that a member of An Garda Síochána was shot and injured in the course of a garda operation in north Dublin.

"I wish him a full and speedy recovery. Incidents like this highlight the danger that can face members of An Garda Síochána in carrying out their duties.
"The work of uniformed gardaí and the special units is critical in keeping people safe and tackling serious criminals whose activities can destroy communities.

"I acknowledge the good work of An Garda Síochána and assure the force of my continued support for its efforts."

A man and two women in their 30s and 40s – who were arrested on suspicion of gun possession following the shooting – are still being questioned this evening.
