The Government has been warned by a speaker at a meeting about the cost of fuel that there will be consequences unless they take concerns about the cost of diesel and petrol seriously. 

Yesterday in Moate in County Westmeath, hundreds gathered to voice their concerns about the cost of filling up their car. 

With just days before Budget 2027 is presented to TDs in Dáil Éireann, speakers were keen to make clear that this spring’s fuel protests could happen once again. 

“We also have learned from these fuel protests and we know exactly which way to go about it so that's your warning,” one speaker said. 

“We are not going to sit back anymore; you're going to get it from all angles.

“It's not just one one county; we have a network of people all over this Ireland. 

“From Donegal to Cork, Galway to Dublin and all over; so all and out to Gardaí I think it was something around 17,500 or 18,000 members. 

“We have a lot more than that so you're going to be outnumbered.”

Last week, Minister Darragh Calleary warned that global fuel prices are “out of our control”, but that the Government was “working very hard” on a plan to keep prices at the pump as low as possible.
