Today

Very windy in all areas today with stormy conditions for a time in western and northern coastal counties as Storm Erik tracks to the north of Ireland.

Heavy rain in eastern counties will clear quickly this morning to leave a mix of bright intervals and widespread blustery showers during the day.

Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with gale force southwesterly winds and some damaging gusts in parts of the west and north.

Tonight

Staying very windy or stormy overnight with widespread showers, merging to longer spells of rain at times. Further damaging wind gusts in places.

Minimum temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in gale force westerly winds.

National weather warnings

A status orange wind warning is in place for Galway and Mayo due to Storm Erik.

Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with some severe or damaging gusts of 110 to 130 km/h.

The highest winds will be in exposed coastal areas, where these values may be exceeded at times.

Very high seas as well with some coastal flooding.

A status orange wind warning is also in place for Donegal.

A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Kerry.

Met Éireann has said 30 to 40 mm rainfall are expected with risk of spot flooding, especially on coasts and hills.

And a status yellow wind warning is in place for the resrt of the country.

Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 80 to 110 km/h.

Along exposed Atlantic coasts these values may be exceeded for a while and with very high seas this will give the risk of coastal flooding.
