Today

Frosty and icy at first. Cold and windy today with sunny spells and occasional wintry showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow, with some accumulations of snow in places.

These showers will be most frequent over Ulster and north Leinster.

Fresh to strong northwesterly winds this morning will ease off later in the day and afternoon temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees Celsius generally, but 6 or 7 degrees in parts of the southwest and along the west coast.

Tonight

Cold and mostly dry tonight with clear periods and just isolated wintry showers in parts of the north at first.

Frosty and icy with lowest temperatures of 0 to -4 degrees Celsius.

National Weather Warnings

A status orange alert for snow and ice is in place for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

Accumulations of 4 to 8 cm are expected, with the larger values on high ground. Also warning of icy roads and footpaths.

A status yellow snow ance ice alert is in place for the rest of the country.

Met Éireann says there will be occasional snow showers, with accumulations of up to 3 cm expected. There will be some icy roads and footpaths also.
