A former convent that served as an orphanage and Magdalene Laundry in Cork has been gutted by fire.

Appeal for witnesses

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

It is not yet clear how the fire started and the Gardaí are awaiting a report from the Fire Service before taking action.

He was speaking to Newstalk’s Southern Correspondent Jonathan Healy.
