There was some spot flooding in Limerick this morning as Storm Brian passed over the country.

While the eye of the storm has now moved towards the UK, three separate weather warnings remain in place across the country until 9pm this evening - including a status orange wind warning for the coasts of Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.

The National Emergency Coordination Group said that while today's rainfall has not finished, the "extent of damage, flooding and disruption has been limited and in line with expectations for this type of Atlantic storm".

Limerick City Council this morning posted images and videos of a number of flooded areas in the city:

However, the council later tweeted to say much of the flood water had been cleared, with water levels said to be falling on the River Shannon.

Defence Forces personnel had been deployed yesterday to help prepare flood defences in the city.

Irish Rail, meanwhile, says speed restrictions are in place along several routes due to the weather warnings, and the transport company is advising that will likely lead to delays of 15-30 minutes.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are being told to be extra cautious while on the roads today.

Today's weather warnings came as crews continue working to restore power to those still without electricity after Monday's powerful storm.

ESB networks say around 22,000 customers are still without power, mostly in the south of the country - meaning more than 90% of homes & businesses initially affected are now back on the grid.

The National Emergency Coordination Group this afternoon said: "Storm Brian hampered the restoration effort in many areas with high winds and driving rain affecting progress.

"There are some new faults arising from Storm Brian, currently these are small in number, and the total number without power remains at 22,000."

The group adds that the weather will continue to affect repair efforts today, but work is continuing "where it is safe to do so".
