Five people have appeared in court in Dublin charged in connection with a protest outside the Department of Justice last month. White paint was thrown at the building and a garda was hurt while trying to restore order.
On March 31st, a group of protestors marched from O'Connell Street to the Department of Justice in the capital to highlight what they believed to be the attempted ''whitewashing' of recent revelations about an Garda Siochana.
They carried placards with slogans like "Alan Shatter's Irish Justice System' and white paint was smeared across a sign outside the building.
Several gardai were covered in paint and one officer suffered minor injuries during the disturbance.
Today five people were brought before Dublin District Court.
John Rooney (22) of Nephin Road in Cabra, Terence Barry (42) of Kennedy Park in Thurles and Stephen Bennett (42) of Pearse Green in Sallynoggin are all charged with causing criminal damage at the Department of Justice.
Francis McDonagh (27) of Nutgrove Crescent in Rathfarnham and Mr. Bennett's daughter Saoirse (20) - who gave the same address as her father - are facing one public order offence each.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is said to be considering further charges against the accused. But for now they have been remanded on bail to appear in court again in June.
