A student attending Dublin City University (DCU) will compete in the Lynx Apollo Space Academy National Challenge this weekend in a bid to board a flight to space. 

Seán Corcoran, a second year Software Engineering student will battle 200 other potential astronauts in London in a series of of gruelling NASA-style physical and mental challenges. 

Corcoran, from Finglas, already beat out 87,000 other entrants in the UK and Ireland alone to make it to this stage in the competition. The four strongest competitors from the London challenge will be flown to Orlando to Global Space Camp to join finalists from 22 countries across the world. A final set of challenges will produce one winner, who will fly 103km into space in 2014 with space tourism company Spacexc.

The Lxnx Apollo Space Academy National Challenge London will take place in front of a live audience at Wesfield London shopping centre this Saturday and Sunday.
