Fine Gael Senator Cáit Keane is calling on John McNulty to reconsider his position as Seanad nominee.
“I didn’t join Fine Gael to be Fianna Fáil light - or any light, I’m my own person.”
“But I do think it’s having a damaging effect on the party, and that’s all that people are talking about, when there’s an awful lot that we could be talking about, particularly at a by-election.
“Maybe he [John McNulty] should look at it – maybe consider his position himself, and ask, ‘am I doing more damage?’
“I don’t believe in stroke politics.”
The Fine Gael candidate for Dublin South West, also called on Minister Heather Humphrey’s to explain whether she knew that Mr. McNulty was the Taoiseach’s nominee for the Seanad before she appointed him on the board of IMMA.
“Openness and transparency is the best policy”, and if you are honest and open with the people, they’ll be honest and open with you, and will support you”, she advised. The former PD Councillor also said she was disappointed with the Taoiseach’s decision in choosing Mr. McNulty over the three women short-listed for the Seanad position.
“Maybe when I get in there myself might appoint me”, she said, when about the lack of women in cabinet, and the decision by the Taoiseach not to promote any female Fine Gael TD’s to junior ministries.
