The first draft of the report into the resignation of Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan has been released - but will not be published for several weeks.

The draft report from the Fennelly Commission is only being sent to so-called 'interested parties', who had a role in the events.

Under the law copies of the first draft are only sent to people who gave evidence as part of the inquiry.

The commission has confirmed it has sent the first draft of the report this morning - as required by law - to give those people a chance to correct any errors or add further evidence.

It means the final report on Mr Callinan's departure should be ready in about a month, potentially before the Dáil breaks for its summer recess.

The report will then be sent to Taoiseach Enda Kenny for him to publish.

Tánaiste Joan Burton says she has not received any notification of the report, and does not expect to receive a draft copy:
