A father and son have been rescued from a speed boat which ran aground at around 6.40pm off the coast of Blackrock, Salthill, Co Galway as the tide was going out.
The Galway RNLI lifeboat launched a rescue operation 20 minutes later.
Upon arrival at the scene two crew members disembarked and swam to the powerboat where the father and son were still on board. They managed to anchor the boat and escort the two men safely to Blackrock.
Neither were injured.
Rescuers have said it is a "lesson learned" for the pair who were inexperienced sailors.
Lifeboat Helmsman David Oliver said: “They were new to boating and I suppose it was a lesson learned for them."
Following the successful rescue mission, the crew made their way back to Galway Docks shortly afterwards. The RNLI lifeboat will relaunch later tonight at around 1am and return to Blackrock to refloat the powerboat at high water.
