The German discount supermarket Lidl has announced they are to create 600 jobs in Ireland over the next two years.

The roles will be in the head office, store operations, warehousing and distribution - recruitment will begin immediately.

The supermarket giant currently employs around 4,000 workers in Ireland and has 146 stores around the country.

The latest jobs on offer in store operations include managers, deputy managers and store assistants.

Further recruitment will take place in warehouse and distribution support.

Head office roles include those in buying, administration, accounting and finance, facilities management, marketing, communications and HR.

Lidl's Graduate Recruitment Programme will also be open for recruitment in the coming months.

Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell-O’Connor has welcomed the announcement.

"Lidl’s decision to hire an additional 600 new staff over the next two years is a real vote of confidence in the Irish economy and demonstrates further commitment from a company which has already invested over €1.5 billion in Ireland since 2000."

"I am particularly pleased that much of this employment will be spread across the country in Lidl’s stores, regional offices and distribution centres which is a key objective of the Government’s Regional Jobs plan."

Information on all vacancies are available on jobs.lidl.ie.
