The family of an Irish teenager being held in an Egyptian jail are calling on the government to take urgent action to secure his release.

Ibrahim Halawa (18) from Dublin has been in custody in Cairo for 10 months after being arrested along with three of his sisters during a protest last August.

His family are accusing the Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore of not doing enough to have him freed from prison.

On August 17th last year Ibrahim and his sisters Somaia, Fatima and Omaima were arrested by Egyptian police.

The four from Firhouse in Dublin had sought shelter in a mosque during a protest - which was then raided by security forces.

The teenager is the son of the most senior Irish Muslim cleric, Sheikh Hussein Halawa, the Imam of the Islamic Cultural Centre.

His sister Somaia - who was detained for a time - is seeking his immediate and unconditional release.
