Offers to foster a baby who was abandoned on the side of the road earlier in the month have been flooding in according to Child and Family Agency, Tusla.

Maria was found on May 8 by a couple driving on Steelstown Lane, Rathcoole, South Dublin, at around 3.30 p.m. Since then, gadaí have actively been looking for her mother. They have been using CCTV footage and examining DNA in order to track her down.

Inquiries about fostering the child and the best wishes of many families across the nation have poured into Tusla for baby Maria. A spokesperson said "Tusla has received dozens of well wishes and generous offers of support for baby Maria from the public."

"While we appreciate the genuine concern felt by the public in this case, in the interests of the children and families with whom
we work, Tusla does not comment on individual cases," she continued.

It is understood that Maria is currently in foster care and is doing very well after she was found draped in a Pennys fleece and a plastic bag.

While the baby had been fed and nourished she was said to be suffering from hypothermia after being left out in heavy rainfall for up to 36 hours.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sgt Maeve O’Sullivan on 01 666 7600, or the Tusla Child and Family Agency on 01 620 6387.
