Man arrested after woman's body discovered at house in County Louth

A man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in County Louth.

Investigators found the remains at a house in the Clonmore Estate in Ardee just after 11:30am this morning.

Gardaí say it appears she died a violent death.

A teenage sex trafficking victim who was jailed for life after a killing a man who solicited her for sex is to be freed from prison after nearly 15 years.

Cyntoia Brown was 16-years-old when she shot Nashville real estate agent Johnny Allen at his home in 2004.

Brown, who was a runaway and under the influence of a violent pimp, said she shot him in self-defence.

Remains found in Co Wexford are those of a woman in her 50s

A post mortem on the body of a woman found in a roadside ditch in Co Wexford does not suggest she died in suspicious circumstances.

The remains were found in Ballyandrew near Ferns by a woman who was out walking her dog on Monday.

The examination was completed by Deputy State Pathologist Linda Mulligan at University Hospital Waterford on Tuesday.

Almost 60% increase on enforcement orders on food businesses last year

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has said 109 enforcement orders were served on food businesses in 2018.

This is a 58% increase compared to 2017.

The FSAI has stressed that the responsibility lies with food businesses to ensure that the food they sell is safe to eat and compliant with food safety legislation.

Nurses and midwives to strike on Wednesday January 30th

Ireland's nurses and midwives will go on strike for 24 hours on Wednesday January 30th.

The strike centres on low wages as well as recruitment and retention problems.

It will see INMO members withdraw their labour for 24 hours, providing only lifesaving care and emergency response teams.
