Irish Ryanair pilots to hold two-day strike next week 

Ryanair pilots who are members of the Irish Airline Pilots' Association (IALPA) are to go on strike next week.

Directly-employed pilots will stop work for 48 hours from midnight on Thursday August 22nd.

Their union served strike notice on the company on Wednesday evening - and said Ryanair pilots would notify the company of further strike days "in due course."

Three men arrested, money seized after attempted ATM robbery in Cavan

Gardaí believe there could be a link between a foiled ATM robbery in Co Cavan overnight, and several similar ATM thefts in the north east in recent months.

Three men have been arrested and over €300,000 recovered after the attempted ATM robbery in Virginia early on Wednesday morning.

At around 2.30am, detective and uniform Gardaí intercepted the attempted theft on Main Street in the town.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Brexit cannot hurt Good Friday Agreement

The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives has reiterated that Britain's exit from the European Union cannot be allowed to imperil the Good Friday Agreement.

Nancy Pelosi also said this had to include a seamless border on the island of Ireland.

She released a statement after US National Security Advisor John Bolton said the UK would be "front of the trade queue" for a new trade agreement with the US after Brexit.

Dozens of Leaving Cert results withheld on suspicion of cheating

The State Examinations Commission (SEC) has revealed Leaving Certificate results of 51 students have been withheld.

This is due to a suspicion of cheating.

This includes full results withheld, or marks withheld, from candidates found to be in breach of examination regulations.

Men jailed in Australia for smuggling pig semen in shampoo bottles

Two men have been jailed for smuggling Danish pig semen into Australia in shampoo bottles.

Danish pigs are known to be more fertile than their Australian colleagues and the men were attempting to use the semen to breed a "super sow" at their Western Australian pig farm.

A number of sows at the farm were found to be direct offspring of Danish boars.
