Third opinion poll of weekend shows narrow gap between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil

The third opinion poll of the last weekend of the general election campaign shows a narrow race between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

The Sunday Independent poll has just a four point gap between the two parties. However, the two other polls released over the last 24 hours show a wider gap.

Meanwhile, Joan Burton has promised to come out swinging as the Labour Party heads into its final week of election campaigning.

This is despite a Sunday Times/Behaviour & Attitudes poll suggesting support for Labour has halved since the campaign began.

The magician and entertainer Paul Daniels has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, his family has revealed.

"We can confirm that one of our greatest magicians and entertainers of all times, Paul Daniels, has sadly been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour," the 77-year-old's publicist said in a statement.

UCD defeat DCU to claim Sigerson Cup for the first time in 20 years

UCD have won the Sigerson Cup for the first time in 20 years by defeating DCU on a scoreline of 0-10 to 2-02 in Jordanstown.

The game, which was played in less than ideal conditions, was a low scoring affair in the first half and it was 1-2 to 0-4 in favour of DCU thanks to a late Stephen O'Brien goal.

Tens of thousands have taken to the streets of Dublin city to voice their opposition to water charges and other austerity measures.

The protest was organised by the Right to Change organisation to mark the final week of the General Election campaign.

Cameron announces 'Brexit' referendum for June 23rd

British Prime Minister David Cameron has confirmed a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union will be held on 23 June.

Mr Cameron briefed his ministers at a Cabinet meeting on Saturday morning after leaving Brussels with what he described as a "historic" deal on the UK's future relationship with Europe.
