Mayor of Cologne urges code of conduct for women, in wake of New Year’s Eve sexual assaults
The Mayor of Cologne has suggested that young women should adopt a “code of conduct”, after women in the city centre were subjected to sexual assaults by hundreds of men on New Year's Eve.
Henriette Reker attended an emergency meeting with police on Tuesday to discuss how best to deal with the incidents that occurred when 1,000 men, “of Arab or North African appearance”, took over the area around the main station.
Dozens of women reported being touched and groped. There was also one case of alleged rape.
Attorney believes actions of Molly Martens and her father were justified
An attorney involved in the case of Molly Martens-Corbett and her father Thomas Martens says he believes their actions were justified.
The two have been released on bail after appearing in court in North Carolina.
32-year-old Molly and 65-year-old father Thomas have been charged with the murder of Limerick man Jason Corbett.
Ms Martens-Corbett has also been ordered not to contact her step-children as part of her bail conditions.

National school ordered to compensate teacher who was harassed because her son is gay
St Paul’s National School in Collooney, Co. Sligo has been ordered to compensate a resource teacher after the Equality Tribunal found that the woman had been harassed on religious grounds and discriminated against because her son was gay.
The principal of the school denies these allegations and the chair of the board of management told the tribunal it responded to the allegations “as best they could”.
