Government talks hit an impasse

with Fine Gael and Fianna Fail say their party leaders now need to get involved.

The two parties say they can't reach a deal on several issues, and need to get further instructions before talks can continue.

Obama: UK would be "back of the queue" for a trade deal outside the EU

President Barack Obama has said a trade deal between the UK and US would be at the "back of the queue" if the UK left the European Union.

The US President said a free trade arrangement would not happen any time soon in the event of a Brexit.

Inuits fear mercury poisoning from Canadian energy company

A Canadian energy company planning to build a multi-billion dollar hydroelectric dam in Newfoundland and Labrador is facing resistance from local Inuits amid fears their community will be poisoned.

Nalcor Energy were granted permission for the construction from the local government four years ago, but apparently flooding the reservoir will release toxic methylmercury into the area that surrounds the nearby Lake Melville.

Autopsy set to determine Prince's cause of death

A post-mortem examination will take place to determine what caused the death of pop superstar Prince.

It follows reports on US celebrity website TMZ that the 57-year-old underwent treatment for a drug overdose just days before his passing.

Quoting multiple sources, the website says Prince left hospital against the advice of doctors.

Brian O'Driscoll believes Connacht's rise is a positive wake-up call to the other Irish provinces.

Off The Ball's premier rugby correspondent joined us on tonight's show and praised what Connacht have brought this season.

"It's a wake-up call to the other three provinces that now automatic selection for Champions Cup isn't going to be guaranteed and maybe more of an emphasis will be put into the Pro 12. It needs as much focus as it can get," he said, while also discussing the issues facing Munster.
