MPs in Westminster back amendment calling for Brexit backstop to be replaced

A spokesman for European Council President Donald Tusk said the withdrawal agreement is not open for re-negotiation. 

It comes after MPs in the House of Commons voted in favour of an amendment calling for the Irish Brexit backstop to be replaced with "alternative arrangements".

Strike by nurses to go ahead after Labour Court decides to not intervene

Tomorrow’s strike by nurses is to go ahead after the Labour Court decided not to intervene.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), the HSE and government officials spent eight hours at the Labour Court, with talks ending shortly before 1am this morning.

However, the court this afternoon said it will not intervene at this time.

It means 37,000 nurses are still set to stage a 24-hour strike tomorrow in a row over pay and conditions.

Referendum to reduce restrictions on divorce to be held in May

Cabinet has agreed that a referendum on divorce will be held in May.

Currently, people have to be separated for four years before they can get a divorce.

The referendum will take the reference to that out of the Constitution - allowing the Oireachtas to reduce the waiting time to two years.

Harris says new children's hospital must be completed despite "colossal" cost overrun

The Health Minister says it's an understatement to say he was very disappointed and frustrated with the spiralling costs of the National Children’s Hospital.

Simon Harris appeared before the Health Committee to discuss the project.

Minister Harris told the hearing it was a difficult decision to press ahead despite the "massive" costs, and that an external review has been ordered to examine the overspend.

Apple disables Group FaceTime over major security issue

Apple has pledged to resolve a bug that allows iPhone users to eavesdrop on people they are calling – even if they do not pick up the phone.

The tech giant said it will release a software patch to deal with the bug later this week.

The bug allows people using the FaceTime video calling feature to hear audio from the recipient's device – before they have answered the call.
