COVID-19: 37 further deaths in Ireland

There have been 37 more deaths from the coronavirus in Ireland.

Latest figures show 265 new cases have also been confirmed.

It brings the total death toll to 1,375, while the number of confirmed cases stands at 22,248.

No decision announced after sixth meeting on Leaving Cert

The Department of Education has yet to announce final details on this year's Leaving Certificate exams, after a sixth stakeholder meeting on Wednesday.

The gathering involved representatives of students, parents, teachers, school leadership and management bodies, the State Examinations Commission (SEC), the National Educational Psychological Service, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment and the department.

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) attended the meeting in an observer capacity.

New bank holiday could help tourism sector - Minister of State

The Minister of State for Tourism has thrown his support behind a new bank holiday to help recovery in the sector.

Brendan Griffin told the Dáil he would welcome any such holiday either early in the year or "at the tail end" of the year.

He said: "Personally for a long time I've felt that, coming from a county that's so dependent on tourism, that an additional bank holiday - either at the earlier part of the year, or the tail end of the year - would be very helpful.

COVID-19: Childcare to be provided in homes of healthcare workers

hildcare is to be provided in the homes of 5,000 healthcare workers from May 18th.

The bulk of the cost will be paid by the State, while families will be asked to pay €90 a week towards the care.

It has been recommended that childcare workers volunteering for the scheme be paid €15 an hour.

Social distancing plan for the Dáil recommends setting up 'isolation room'

A preliminary social distancing plan has been published for the Dáil chamber.

A safety consultant company has come up with a plan in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

It recommends setting up an isolation room for people who show symptoms in Leinster House.
