It is believed he has told them that the only issue remaining to be resolved is how VAT on trade between the North and Britain will be managed.

A Downing Street spokesman said the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has told his Cabinet that there is a chance of reaching an agreement – but a deal has not yet been reached.

“Can we really tolerate this?”

A Dublin homeless charity has shared a heartbreaking image of a five-year-old boy eating his dinner on a sheet of cardboard on a Dublin City Centre street.

The Homeless Street Café said the situation on the city’s streets is “only getting worse each week.”

The charity said the child is in emergency accommodation and attends school.

It said its volunteers are working with his mother to ensure he has access to nutritious home-cooked meals, noting “most emergency accommodations strictly forbid cooking or food preparation.”

Major fire at Dublin school

Management at a Dublin school will meet tomorrow to discuss ways to re-house around 200 students who have been left without a classroom after a major fire.

The blaze broke out at Scoil Chaitríona in Coolock in the early hours of this morning.

Both the junior and senior schools will remain closed for the rest of the week.

Architects visited the site today to assess the damage.

Marc Power said he was jumped after arranging to meet someone on the Grindr dating app on Tuesday.

He said the group of teenage boys were carrying weapons and attempted to hit him in the head with hammers.

“They tried to kill me with these weapons,” he said.

Ombudsman warns children have died over mental health inaction

The Children's Ombudsman Dr Niall Muldoon claims young people have died by suicide because of the Government's 'inaction' on mental health.

He is extremely critical of the State's failure to put in place an initiative that was first suggested more than five years ago.

Dr Muldoon has written a detailed letter to Health Minister Simon Harris about the delay in implementing the Pathfinder Project for Youth Mental Health.

It has been released under the Freedom of Information Act.
