With the European elections fast approaching, informing voters about the politics and policies of the parties running in the election is an important undertaking.
Irish political parties at times do not communicate their policy positions on issues important to voters very well, and with the cacophony of interests vying for your attention it can be hard to ascertain what party best represents your ideals.
Euandi is the first social Voting Advice Application (VAA) ever developed. It aims at helping citizens make an informed choice in the 2014 European Parliament (EP) elections.
Developed by the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, in collaboration with scholars at the UCD Dublin European Institute, euandi provides voters with a clear view of the European electoral campaign and their individual positions within it.
The social component: Where in Europe are voters most like you?
Not only does the tool help people identify which political parties represent their views, but it also provides an innovative platform for community building, where people from all over Europe can connect with each other based on their political views.
Once you complete the questionnaire, you will be presented with a list of the Irish and European parties ranked in order of how best they represent your views, a 3-D visual representation of where you stand relative to these parties, and a map of Europe through which you can see where in Europe voters agree most with your own political views.
The tool’s strong scientific background and its innovative social features make it interesting not only to the general public, but also to academics, experts and policy makers.
It is important to note that this tool is politically neutral. euandi is developed by academics for the wider public – it explicitly is not aiming at favouring any political party or group of parties.
The best part is that euandi can be used completely free of cost by whatever interested person, organisation or institution. euandi is exclusively financed by the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and so is completely independent from outside influence.
