A man who suffered locked-in syndrome after an operation at Cork University Hospital will have to wait until October to be awarded a final lump sum payment.
In 2001, Eoin O'Mahony from Blarney in Co Cork suffered headaches and was admitted to Cork University Hospital where he underwent brain surgery.
He later lapsed into a coma and suffered devastating brain injuries.
Following two separate payments awarded by the High Court, Mr Justice Michael Moriarty ruled in November last year that the family would be awarded a final lump sum payment.
Today the court heard that there was a dispute over what that lump sum should be.
Mr Justice Moriarty ordered that an interim payment of €800,000 be paid to Mr O'Mahony's family, until a final judgement in October.
