A major Dublin nightclub that is closing its doors this month is to re-open its doors as an “arts, games, eatery & events space” later this year.

The Wright Venue in Swords is to close from January 14th.

The venue’s staff learned of the closure on Thursday in a letter warning that they were at risk of redundancy.

However in a statement Friday afternoon, the Michael JF Wright Hospitality Group said it will now focus on its restaurant and food businesses.

It said all venue staff will be offered new positions within the company.

The venue itself is set to be “re-imagined and managed” by Dublin promoters Bodytonic – the group behind the Bernard Shaw, Wigwam, the Back Page and the Eatyard.

Bodytonic said the new venue, named ‘Jam Park,’ will open in the coming months and “will be a space for everyone, seven days a week to have fun in, on all sorts of levels.”

Wright Venue

In the statement, owner Michael Wright thanked everyone that supported the venue in recent years, adding that he looks forward to seeing Jam Park “thrive as we did.”

“Since taking a chance and building a venue in North Dublin in the worst of the recession, we’ve spent a decade welcoming customers in their thousands from all over the country,” he said.

“We thrived thanks to the talented and passionate team that helped create the unique Wright Venue atmosphere and reputation and by offering quality entertainment and major stars.

“I’m particularly proud that we created a safe and enjoyable venue for thousands of young people with our teen events.”

Letter

In its letter to staff dated January 3rd, management said: "We are committed to mitigating this risk and would like to offer alternative employment to as many Venue staff as possible"

It added that the firm is "committed to doing everything possible to identify suitable alternative opportunities" for staff across the group.

Workers were being asked to send their CV to management and detail their skills and experience.

The venue, which has been open for more than 10 years, is spread across three floors.

It has played host to several celebrities including Ellie Goulding, Craig David, 50 Cent and Rihanna.

Its suites were styled on those seen in Las Vegas, New York and LA.

The club also hosted a VIP penthouse rooftop and gardens.

It is the latest nightclub in the capital to announce its closure in recent weeks.

Club 92 in Leopardstown shut on New Year's Eve, while Lillie's Bordello will close on January 19th.
