A Dublin student has won the overall Doodle 4 Google award in Ireland with a drawing of the logo based around the theme of ‘My Adventure’.

Eight-year-old Kelly McCabe from Scoil Carmel Junior National School in Firhouse, Dublin, was announced as the overall winner of the competition that received 2,390 entries since the final call in December last year.

Kelly’s creation, featuring a colourful collection of animals in a safari, was shortlisted among 75 finalists and her winning doodle will be shown on Google.ie homepage for a full day later this month.

Speaking from Google HQ in Dublin today, Katy Wu, a resident doodler at Google.com, said, “I was struck by how clearly Kelly’s drawing portrayed the idea of ‘My Adventure’ and how she created a personality for each of the animals.”

Aside from the satisfaction of having her artwork seen by millions of people across the country, Kelly also receives a €5,000 scholarship for her third-level education.

It’s good news for her school too, as it will receive a €10,000 technology grant along with a Google Chromebook for Kelly and her teacher.

Four other class group winners were announced today and their teachers will also receive a Chromebook each. You can view their doodles here: www.google.ie/doodle4google/

The 75 finalists were shortlisted by a panel of judges including Ciara O’Shea, Marketing Manager of Dublin Children’s Museum, Imaginosity, Irish artist Christine Crotty of The Swan Academy of Art, Design and Digital, famed for her Illustrated Pictorial Maps of Irish Walled Towns, and Jim Fitzpatrick, legendary Irish artist and creator of the iconic red and black 1968 Che Guevara poster.
