A Dublin man will have to wait to find out if his appeal against a conviction for the murder of his childhood friend has been successful.

Jonathan Dunne from Windmill Park in Crumlin was originally convicted for his attempted murder in Stillorgan but was then sentenced for his murder after he died two years later.

On the afternoon of July 4th 2007, Mr. Dunne (28) shot Ian Kenny in the head and shoulder in order to repay a drug debt.

He was sentenced to 12 years behind bars for the attempted murder of his friend.

Mr. Kenny remained in a coma for the next two years, before he died from pneumonia at Beaumont Hospital.

Following his death, his attacker was convicted of his murder and jailed for life in what was the first case of its kind to come before the Irish courts.

His lawyers argue that the chain of causation was broken by a 'Do Not Resuscitate' order and he could have lived otherwise.

Pending the outcome of this appeal, Mr. Dunne finds himself in a position whereby he is serving time for both the murder and attempted murder of his friend.

Both sides have addressed the court and the three-judge panel will deliver its judgement at a later date.
